A rheumatic diagnosis changes life.
A new daily reality begins – with pain, exhaustion, and uncertainty.
The Swiss League Against Rheumatism accompanies people with rheumatic conditions on their journey: we help them regain their ability to act, maintain their ability to work, and ensure social participation. This creates new orientation and strength to shape everyday life. Because rheumatism changes many things – but not who you are.
The national competence centre for rheumatism
The Swiss League Against Rheumatism is the national competence centre for rheumatism and the umbrella organisation of 17 cantonal or regional rheumatism leagues as well as six national patient organisations. We are the first point of contact for those affected, offer low-threshold counselling, and are a recognised training institution for rheumatology professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical assistants.
Founded in 1958, the organisation is mainly financed through donations and contributions, and it carries the ZEWO quality label for charitable and transparent work.
Rheumatism in Switzerland
Rheumatism refers to around 200 diseases of the musculoskeletal system – affecting muscles and tendons, joints, and connective tissue. Organs can also be affected.
Around 2 million people in Switzerland live with rheumatism. Even children and adolescents can be affected: 1 in 1,000 children suffers from a rheumatic disease.
